Dairy Selection and the Future Genomics

  • Saturday, May 25, 2019, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Animal Selection Clinic

When: March 25th, 10:00am

Location: Dean Sharp's- 6501 North Bergen Rd, Byron, NY

Our animal selection clinic is a great time to learn about the qualities you want in a show animal, proper show calf nutrition, and the future of genomics! Youth will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to select a show calf for fair. We will also discuss the future of genomics and the impact it is making on the dairy industry. The use of genomic evaluations has transformed dairy cattle breeding in the United States and worldwide. Learn why bulls are used widely as sires based on the analysis of their DNA before they have any milking daughters. RSVP to the 4-H office by May 17. If you have any questions, call Stephanie at 585-786-2251

**This activity will satisfy the requirement for exhibiting dairy cattle at fair**
