State Fair Youth Animal Entry Update

We are still waiting on the NYS 4-H office to provide complete youth entry information and deadlines for animal science.If you have ANY interest in exhibiting beef, dairy, dogs, hogs, poultry, rabbits, or sheep in the 4-H/youth divisions at State Fair, please contact the 4-H Office no later than AUGUST 1ST so that we can put you on a list to pass along information when it becomes available.Eligible horse participants have already been notified.For families planning to enter animals in open classes at State Fair, entry information is available online along with entry deadlines https://nysfair.ny.gov/competitions/how-to-enter/

State Fair Youth Building Entry Update

We’re excited that our 4-H members will have an opportunity to showcase their hard work at the New York State Fair this year! Remember 2021 ‘state fair selections’ are eligible to move directly onto display at the 2022 NYS Fair, in addition to any selections made at our county fair this year! The Wyoming County Fair “rotation” at our district booth will be Monday August 29th – Friday September 2nd. If older teens are interested in attending the state fair to serve as teen evaluators, and help in our county booth with daily activities, please call the 4-H office to inquire!!!
- *Reminder* if youth do have exhibits selected for state fair, we will be working with families to fill this information out during our fair and early the following week, as we must take all exhibits to the state fair on Tuesday, August 23rd. Just be mindful if your child has exhibits selected – we will be looking for paperwork to be turned around quickly!

Livestock Program

Livestock Scholarship Applications - This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and post high school students intending to further their education at an institution of higher education or directly entering the workforce.Meat animal project participation for the last four years is required, including the current project year.Applications are due on Monday, July 25th and applications can be found here: https://wyoming.cce.cornell.edu/resources/2022-livestock-scholarship

Rabbit Showmanship Clinic

All rabbit & cavy exhibitors need to attend the showmanship clinic on Tuesday, August 9th at 7:00pm.The meeting will be held at the poultry and rabbit barn at the fairgrounds.Please DO NOT bring your rabbits/cavies that evening.Exhibitors will also be able to sign up for work shifts during fair at that time.

Horseless Horse Activities, Barn Cleanup & Committee Meeting!

Tuesday, August 2nd 6:30pm at the fairgrounds near the horse barns.
In addition to the committee meeting, we will be offering any youth interested an opportunity to participate in some pre fair fun! Please call the 4-H office to register. You do not need to have a horse or be planning on riding at the fair to participate. We will be working on making sure the barns and surrounding areas are fair ready. Bring some tools! Please contact Sarah at the 4-H office if you have any questions.

Dairy Program

White Show Pants -4-H members who are showing dairy or goats, are you looking for show white pants? We have a 4-H club leader who has a variety of sizes of white pants, call Stephanie in the 4-H office to inquire about show pants.

Youth Building at Fair!

July is flying by, and August is almost here! If you haven’t already – think about those 4-H projects, you completed throughout the year and get them ready to submit in the youth building! Judging day is Friday, August 12th 1-7pm. Reference the fair book for section and class details, remember to fill out your voucher and entry cards ahead of time! CLEANUP DAY – At the Youth Building - Many hands make light work – if your family or club is interested in helping get the youth building sparkling in time for the fair, we would gladly accept the help! Our cleanup day is Tuesday, August 9th 9AM-12PM. Please call the 4-H office to let us know you’ll be attending!! We will provide cleaning supplies and light snacks!
Getting Fair Ready – Youth Building Questions?? - Are you overwhelmed with the requirements to exhibit static projects in the youth building? Questions about evaluation day or how to fill out your child’s voucher correctly? We will have an in-person opportunity to answer all of those and more! We will be specifically featuring vegetable, flower, and baked good exhibits, but all questions are welcome about any project!! Join us Thursday, August 3rd at 6:30pm at the Ag & Business Center – to register for this event call the 4-H office.

Fair Barns

CLEANUP DAY – Fair Barns - Tuesday, August 9th at 5:30PM. Dairy, Livestock, and Small Animal Exhibitors: Come on out and help spruce up the barns before the fair starts! Bring shovels, brooms, rakes, pitchforks, wheelbarrows, etc. We would greatly appreciate everyone’s help in getting general cleanup done before clubs and individuals start setting up displays. If your club has a specific project you would like to do, call the 4-H office.
Barn Stall Set-up - Exhibitors may start setting up after 7PM on Tuesday, August 9th. Keep in mind that we really can’t have people “working” in the barns all hours of the night. It is 4-H’s responsibility to turn out the lights and lock things up the best we can each night. Please be respectful of these requests. Thank you in advance!

Fair Floats

Is your club looking for something fun to do at fair this year?Why not consider entering a float for the Grand Parade on Monday, August 15th.The fair theme this year is in honor of our 4-H program’s 100th anniversary – “Wyoming County Fair Salutes a Century of 4-H!”If you are interested, details can be found on page 12 of the fair book.

Last Call for U-Pick Flower Session & Tour

Registration will close at the end of the day on Monday, July 25th for the tour and u-pick opportunity at Flowers on the Hill – a local flower grower in Wyoming. Owners Peg and Trina Cox will be providing a tour of the grounds, and an opportunity to pick flowers to make a bouquet to take home! This opportunity is free for general attendance, but if you would like to pick a bucket of flowers it will be $15 each. Please call the 4-H office to register by Monday if you wish to attend this unique opportunity!

Teen Dance Planning Meeting

Teens – are you interested in having a 4-H semi-formal dance this fall?This event would be in place of the former fall etiquette dinner.Join us Friday, July 29th at 10am in the 4-H office for a planning session to get the “ball” rolling!Call the 4-H office to let us know if you plan to attend the meeting.

Gladiola Meeting

Monday August 1st – 6:30pm at Spencer’s Gladiolus (6496 Oatka Road, Perry)! Please call the 4-H office to register. Youth will learn all about showcasing their gladiolas for the fair and make a corsage/arrangement to practice and take home! This session is highly recommended if youth are participating in the gladiola project.
