General Livestock Program Reminders:

  • Non-Auction Beef Sheep & Swine (Ages 8-18 as of 1/1/22): Youth members DO NOT have to participate in the livestock auction project to show beef, sheep, or pigs at the fair during 4-H shows. We have non-auction showmanship, market classes, and breeding animal classes for each of these species. They are a great way to learn how to raise and show livestock before jumping into the auction program. To exhibit beef, sheep or pigs, youth members must complete one of the specified education events for the livestock program. Pre-registration in the form of a fair entry is also required by July 15th. Watch the June 4-H News for information and deadlines on fair entries. Youth do have an opportunity to exhibit at the NYS Fair. We have project learning materials available in the 4-H office on request.

DNA Extraction

  • Join us on Monday, April 4th at 7pm for a livestock workshop where we will extract DNA from fruits and vegetables. This type of science exploration relates to many careers in agriculture and animal science and is just fun! The event will satisfy the educational requirement for youth to show 4-H beef, sheep, or pigs at the fair. Please RSVP in advance of the meeting as space is limited by calling the 4-H office at 585-786-2251.
