Meat Animal Auction Program Record Sheets Due October 15th

  • If you started a meat animal project for 2021 you need to turn in a record sheet by 10/15 in order to be eligible for the upcoming years project. You can email Holly at hmh62@cornell.edu with any questions on this requirement. Links to forms:

Produced in NYS Foods Contest

  • Come participate in this year’s Produced in New York Foods Contest Saturday November 13th at the Ag & Business Center in Warsaw. Registration will start at 8:30AM ¬the contest will begin at 9AM. In order to learn about nutrition and practice food presentation skills, 4-H members will present a silent food demonstration, promoting items from the Empire State. All contestants will prepare recipes at the same time, without talking. Participants will be allowed 50 minutes to demonstrate. ¬The major ingredient of the recipe must feature a product grown or produced in NY State - such as fruits, vegetables, dairy or meat. ¬This is your chance to be creative and have fun at the same time! Age categories as of 1/1/22: *Cloverbuds: 5-7 years old Juniors: 8 - 12 years old Seniors: 13 - 19 years old Call the 4-H office for more details and to sign up today! *Please note Cloverbud recipes must be approved for appropriate skill level upon registration. Registration deadline is Monday, November 1st.


Attention 4-H Leaders…

  • Please turn in your club completion and financial forms by 10/15.There are also several club enrollments packets still in our office. We will be checking in with leaders that have not picked up packets early next week to make arrangements for pick-up.


End of year 4-H recognition opportunities…

  • There are several opportunities for end of year recognition within our 4-H program. You can reach out to the 4-H office with questions and all forms/nominations are due by 10/15.

• Consider nominating your club leader for “Leader of the Year” recognition.

• Nominate a youth for “Outstanding Member” recognition. There are junior, intermediate, and senior categories.

• Junior Leader recognition for youth that partner with adults to provide leadership for 4-H clubs and countywide 4-H activities. Depending on age and experience, a junior leader can serve as a general assistant, teach a project, mentor individual members, coordinate activities or assume almost any other 4-H leadership role under the supervision of an adult.

• Memorial Awards – there are a number of awards listed in the 4-H News that you may be eligible for. Take a look!


There is still time to sign up for Upcoming workshops…

  • Know Your Trees Nature Hike: Monday, October 11, starting 9:30AM at Beaver Meadow’s Audubon- 1610 Welch Rd, North Java. The hike will happen rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. Materials that youth will need to bring are a notebook and pen/pencil. Call the 4-H office at (585) 786-2251 or email Stephanie at sal294@cornell.edu to register, registration deadline is October 8th.
  • Junk Journal Workshop - Wednesday, October 20th 6:30-8:00pm Cost: $5.00 Age: anyone under 10 will need parent assistance Limit 12 students. Instructor will bring all basic supplies. Students will learn to make a basic junk journal from an old book, using card stock, scrapbooking paper, decorative scissors and cord.
  • Fall Paint Party - Monday, November 8th 6:30-8:30pm Cost: $5.00 Who is ready for a paint party? All the supplies will be provided for this fun evening event. Space is limited to 12 youth ages 8+. Registration closes October 29th.


TSC Fall Paper Clover Campaign…

  • The Tractor Supply Company (TSC) stores in Arcade and Warsaw are once again joining 4-H in support of local youth with the TSC Paper Clover Promotion, a national in-store fundraising effort to benefit state and local 4-H programming. Beginning Wednesday, October 6th through Sunday, October 17th, shoppers at the Arcade and Warsaw Tractor Supply Company will have the opportunity to once again support 4-H in Wyoming County by purchasing paper clovers for just $1 at checkout. All funds raised through this local TSC Paper Clover Campaign will be donated to 4-H.


Agri-business career trip…

  • The 44th Annual New York State 4-H Agribusiness Career Conference will be held on October 22, 2021, at SUNY Cobleskill. The conference will run from 9 AM through 4 PM. ¬This career exploration conference is open to all youth ages 14 and over who wish to become more aware of opportunities with agriculture and the academic requirements for professional positions available in the various agri-businesses. It will feature:

• Campus tour, with featured stops at the Carriage House and the new dairy processing center

• Small group study sessions with faculty/staff (including Animal Science, Plant Science, Fisheries, Ag Engineering & Ag Business)

• Panel discussion with admissions, current students, and graduates

  • The 2021 conference will look a bit different this year as we are only able to offer a one-day option (no overnight). A participation fee of $20.00 per youth and $10 per chaperone will include all conference materials and lunch. To register for the conference email or call Stephanie at sal294@cornell.edu. Families will need to provide transportation/chaperone. Scholarships are available. Registrations are due by October 13th.

General reminders …

  • FCS Committee Meeting – Tuesday, October 19th at 7pm!
  • 2021 – 2022 4-H year began October 1st!
  • Completion paperwork is due back to the 4-H office by October 15th.
  • Independent enrollments have been mailed.
  • Any youth who participated in the meat animal project in the 2020-2021 4-H year and wish to participate again in the 2021-2022 4-H year MUST be re-enrolled by November 30, 2021.
