Elderberries is an age friendly social cooking groupfor adults 60+ supported by the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York. which meets monthly in each of the eight WNY counties including Alleghany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming. The meetings will focus on simple, nutritious recipes that use common items from your home pantry, and in season fresh produce when able. The class will also incorporate your own favorite recipes if you have family recipes you want to share. Participants will work to do recipe rehabilitation as well, using healthy substitutes for some ingredients to improve the overall nutrition of a recipe. At the conclusion of each session participants can share the freshly made food and take any leftovers home. The class size is kept small, as each class maxes out at 10 people. There will also be occasional canning and food preservation instruction with experts from Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Sessions will be held monthly January through December. Register today by contacting the coordinator, Brenda Zuch at blz5@cornell.edu or by calling her directly at (585) 798-4265 x 139. Supported by a grant from the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York.
