MILK QUALITY COURSE

  • Tuesday, March 14th at 6:30 PM at the Ag & Business Center, Warsaw
  • 4-H youth ages 13-18 are invited to attend this workshop
  • This workshop will be taught by Rick Watters, the manager of Quality Milk Production Services. Youth will learn about dairy mastitis, using a milk culture plate, and discussing mastitis prevention methods. Youth will have time in the QMPS lab looking at different strains of mastitis under a microscope and plating culture plates.
  • RSVP to the 4-H office by Tuesday, March 7th. Any questions, call, or email Stephanie.

DAIRY JUDGING 101 & REASONS WORKSHOP

  • Thursday, March 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Ag & Business Center, Warsaw
  • Dairy judging 101- youth ages 8-13, Reasons Workshop- youth ages 14-18
  • Join Stephanie for some fun interactive games to help youth learn the basics of dairy judging! Youth will learn the body parts of the cow, what the ideal cow looks like, and how to judge a class. We will have youth feeling confident to go dairy judge later in April.
  • The Reasons Workshop is available for senior youth who want to learn how to give oral reasons. This workshop will be fun and interactive- youth will have to judge a class of candy bars, place them, and give reasons. We will focus on how to write a set of reasons, terminology, and reasons etiquette.

DISTRICT GOAT BOWL

  • Saturday, April 1st at 10 AM at Oakfield-Alabama School, 7001 Lewiston Rd. Oakfield
  • This district goat quiz bowl contest is available to Cloverbuds, Junior, and Senior members. Youth will test their knowledge of dairy goats, meat goats, goat products, and goat judging.
  • Youth need to RSVP to Stephanie if they plan to attend the event. Call or email the 4-H office by March 17th.

LIVESTOCK SKILL-A-THON

  • Saturday, March 4th @ 9:30am, Ag & Business Center, Warsaw
  • Identification and problem-solving stations that include many aspects of the livestock industry. Youth will work through stations to identify items such as common equipment, breeds, parts of animals, meat cuts, etc… At the conclusion of the stations, we will go back through and discuss the correct answers to review information. Please register in advance by calling the 4-H office.

LIVESTOCK PROGRAM Q&A

  • Tuesday, March 7th @ 7:00pm, Ag & Business Center, Warsaw
  • Informational session for families interested in beef, sheep, swine, meat goats, or market poultry programs. Check out the 4-H news for more information. Please register by March 6th by calling the 4-H office.

HIPPOLOGY

  • Saturday, March 11th 9:30AM Ag & Business Center, Warsaw
  • Join us for a horse Skill-a-thon! This is a self-paced educational contest with different knowledge stations – including breeds, tack, health, judging, anatomy, and feeds. Any skill level are welcome to attend. Preregistration is encouraged but not required. Junior and Senior youth who excel at our county level could be eligible to attend the district hippology contest in Erie County on April 29th.

2023 COOKIE SALE (PRE-ORDER, PRE-SALE ONLY)

  • This is the final stretch for the 4-H Cookie Sale! The sale officially concludes Sunday evening. Reminder that orders are due to your CLUB LEADER (if applicable) and then to your COOKIE CHAIR by end of business Monday 3/6. Please refer to the cookie sale information for order forms, incentive sheets, financial forms, and chair information. https://wyoming.cce.cornell.edu/4-h-youth-develop... Please call your respective cookie chair to schedule a drop off time for money and forms ahead of Monday. Cookies are expected to be delivered mid/late April.

AWARD TRIP APPLICATIONS

  • The award trip application is live on our website, and all eligible 4-H’ers were mailed paper copies this week. Handwritten applications are due next Friday 3/10 to the 4-H office. These trips are FULLY FUNDED besides a few meals and personal expense by the Wyoming County Leader’s Association – which is funded by our annual cookie sale. We encourage youth age 12+ to apply for these amazing opportunities!!! Youth must have sold at least 2 cases worth of cookies to be eligible for an award trip. LET’S GET JAMMIN’!

  • Wednesday, March 15th 6:30pm Ag & Business Center, Warsaw.
  • Open to 4-H youth ages 10 and up. Cost: $5 per person; limited to 15 participants. Youth will learn how to make USDA approved jam - a recipe that can be replicated and submitted in the youth building at fair! We will also make freezer jam for tasting (not a fair approved recipe). Pre-registration and payment required by Friday, March 3rd. Call the 4-H office at 585-786-2251 to register. ** Please watch our Facebook page for any updates as it pertains to the weather during the next couple of months. This is where we will post any cancellations or changes to our events **
