DAIRY CALF NECROPSY

  • Thursday, June 1st at 6:30 PM; Perry Vet Clinic, 3180 NY-246, Perry, NY
  • A necropsy is an autopsy of an animal. Youth will have the opportunity to watch a veterinarian perform a necropsy on a calf. We will discuss the different body systems that the animal uses such as circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems. To register for this event please call the 4-H office at 585-786-2251 by Friday, May 26th.
  • (This event will satisfy the educational requirements to show dairy at the fair)

DAIRY GRADE AND LEASE PAPERWORK

  • If you are planning on leasing a dairy calf or showing a grade animal, you are required to turn in paperwork to the 4-H office by June 1st. Lease and Grade papers are available on our website, or there are hard copies available in the 4-H office. Any questions, please contact Stephanie.

FARRIER CLINIC

  • Sunday May 21st, 10AM at Wolcott Farms, Warsaw
  • Please call the 4-H office to register for this event. Participation will count as an educational event to show horses at the 2023 Wyoming County Fair.

LEADLINE CLINIC

  • Tuesday May 30th, 6pm Kingbrook Farms, Chaffee
  • Want to better understand what leadline classes are all about? Come to this event! New to Wyoming County 4-H this year, we will be hosting 4 leadline classes during the Western Show at the Wyoming County Fair. Cloverbud participation will count as an educational event to show horses at the 2023 Wyoming County Fair. Please call the 4-H office to register for this event. RIDER EVALUATIONS

  • 4-H’ers who are new or need to move up a riding level must complete a rider evaluation to participate at the Wyoming County Fair! Opportunities are as follows:
    • Tuesday May 30th, 6pm Kingbrook Farms, Chaffee
    • Wednesday June 14th, 6pm at Bridgman Stables, Varysburg
    • Monday June 19th, 6pm at Wolcott Farms
    • Saturday June 24th, 9am at Diana Henry’s home, Bliss
  • Participants MUST pre-register for these opportunities!! Please call the 4-H office to register for one of these events.

HORSE CERTIFICATES CLINIC

  • Any 4-H member who plans to ride at the Wyoming County Fair needs to complete a horse certificate mailed or submitted to the 4-H office by June 1st. Late entries will not be accepted. A horse certificate must be on file for any horse and rider combination, and once we have a horse and rider on file, a new certificate DOES NOT need to be completed year to year. You can find the horse certificate and rules on our website.

BASIC NUTRITION & AVERAGE DAILY GAIN FOR MARKET ANIMALS

  • Thursday, May 25th at 7pm at the Ag & Business Center
  • We will look at some basic needs for animal growth and development along with calculating average daily gains and feed efficiencies. Please register by May 24th for this meeting by calling the 4-H office. It will satisfy the educational requirement for showing beef, sheep, pigs, market goats, or market chickens at the fair.

LEAF & FLOWER POUNDING CARD MAKING CLASSES

  • Tuesday, May 23rd at 6:30 PM at the Ag & Business Center, Warsaw
  • Open to any age 4-H member
  • Materials needed: Hammer
  • We will be making cards and decorating them by using vibrant flowers and leaves for flower pounding. Flower Pounding is the art of transferring the color of flowers and foliage by pounding with a hammer or other heavy object. The foliage will release their natural dyes onto the paper leaving a beautiful design. We will make a variety of cards that you can take home and use! Please call the 4-H office (585) 786-2251 by May 19th to register for the event.

POTTERY CLASS

  • Saturday, May 27th, 2023, 1:30-2:30 PM at Mystic Pots Ceramics Studio - 284 Main Street, Arcade
  • Open to 4-H youth ages 10 and up
  • Cost: $20 per person; space is limited
  • Learn the basics of working and molding clay. This workshop will be both fun and rewarding by turning a piece of clay into art. You can create beautiful, sculptural, and fictional pieces with your own hands.
  • Pre-registration and payment required by May 19th.

4-H COOKIE DECORATING WORKSHOP

  • Thursday May 18th 5:30pm-8:30pm at the Ag & Business Center
  • Instructors: Kelly and Brandy of Milk and Honey Baking Company (follow on Facebook and/or Instagram!)
  • Age: 10+
  • Cost: $10 per youth
  • Want to learn how to decorate cookies like a pro? This is the workshop for you! Youth will make a cookie “set” of an ice cream cone. Please note, families will have to pick up cookies the following day, as they need 24 hours to dry. Registration before the event is required as this class has a limited capacity. Call the 4-H office 585-786-2251 or email wyomingcounty4h@cornell.edu to register!

NIGHT WITH THE MUCK DOGS

  • Tuesday, June 6th at @ 6:35PM, Dwyer Stadium; doors open at 5:30pm
  • Tickets are FREE for 4-H members & 4-H Clubs; you receive 1 free ticket, hot dog, popcorn, and drink!
  • Contact the 4-H office by May 24th if you or your club are interested or if you have any questions.

4-H GIANT VEGETABLE AND GLADIOLA SEED PICK UP

  • Gladiola Bulbs and Vegetable seeds are now available for pickup if you signed up for this project!! Don’t delay as both the bulbs and plants need to be planted soon for success.

COOKIE SALE

  • Thank you to all of the 4-H families who sold cookies this year! We do have small amounts of cookies still available at the 4-H office – give us a call if you’re interested! $4/box. We still have all 6 flavors including: Raspberry Whippets, Lemon Crème, Maple Crème, Mint Fudge, Peanut butter crème, and snickerdoodle.
